Making New Year's Eve Memorable for Kids

New Year's at home with your children can be a fun event for the whole family! With a few ideas, you can turn this into a night to remember for your children.

Year in Review Questionnaire

Make a questionnaire for your kids so they can reflect on the past year. We do this with our kids each year, and it has been fun to see the changes that they have made each year.

Countdown to the "Noon Year"

If you have young children, keeping them up until midnight sounds like a terrible idea, you could do a countdown to the "Noon Year". This is a great way to include younger children while staying on a bedtime routine.

Do all the fun activities with your kids, then at 11:59 AM begin a countdown to Noon Year! There are tons of YouTube videos that show the Ball drop that you can even show your kids.

Balloon Drop

Blow up a bunch of balloons, and place them in a large garbage bag. After the countdown, pour the balloons onto your children for an exciting and memorable way to celebrate the New Year.

Create Resolutions as a Family

As a family, take a little bit of time to think of what you want to accomplish this year. Ask your children as well. Write the ideas down and put them somewhere special where everyone will see them. Kids are great at reminding you what goal you set, so they could be the perfect little motivator for the new year.

Make Some Noise

After the countdown, grab some pots and pans, noisemakers, kazoos, or whatever is in your home! Let your kids get LOUD and celebrate. This is such a fun and easy way to enjoy the end of the year. Kids will think it is extra special because they are doing something that they usually aren't able to do.

Board Games

Board Games are a must on New Year's Eve. Keeping kids up late allows bonding time as a family. Board Games are perfect for this time. Grab a favorite that you have at home and enjoy this time with your family.

Dress Up for the Occasion

Get dressed up for the night. Put on "fancy clothes" for a few hours. Or allow your daughter to wear the princess dress that she loves. Have your son put on a superhero costume. Play pretend with your kids, and see where their imagination takes you.

Create a Feast

Have your kids help you make the New Year's Dinner or some snacks. Include them in some of the decision-making for the evening.

We make mini pizzas later in the evening, it wakes the kids up a bit and takes up a good amount of time. Plus they get to make a pizza of their very own, and who doesn't love that?

Catch up on Art Projects or Lego Sets

Build or play with some of the Christmas and holiday gifts that your kids received this year. If they got Lego or art projects, this would be the perfect day to work on them. Enjoy those things together, while you have the extra time.

Celebrating any holiday with children can make the event feel magical.

New Year's Eve isn't any different. With just a little bit of work, this can easily be a year to remember.
